Calibration of glucometer

Glucometers must be calibrated to ensure accurate readings are provided to the person performing the test. Whilst some glucometers can calibrate automatically, most will require the user to manually calibrate. Calibration of a glucometer is for example required when using a new box of test strips or when checking for ketones, which requires different test strips. An important step in the process is ensuring that the calibration strip matches the code displayed on the glucometer and on the test strips in the box.

As the client’s treatment and care is dependent on these readings, their accuracy and reliability are crucial in the management plan of the client.
