Administration of medication via a Metered Dose Inhaler
This handheld device is a convenient mode of delivering accurate dosages of medication to a person’s lungs. Used correctly there is very little wastage and limited likelihood of experiencing adverse side effects.
A metered does inhaler (MDI) consists of a pressurised canister inside a plastic mouthpiece. A chemical propellant is used to administer medication as a directed, fine mist into the client’s air passage. The method still requires that the client inhale the medication correctly to ensure efficient delivery to the lungs.
